Mercury Advisory Awareness Study

DESCRIPTION
The Mercury Advisory Awareness Study was a telephone survey of 1000 randomly selected women of childbearing age (18 to 45) in Wisconsin and Maine to determine their fish consumption habits and mercury advisory awareness. Approximately 500 interviews were targeted for each state. The overall response rate for the survey was 52.5%.

UW Madison Postdoctoral Scholar Survey

DESCRIPTION
The Postdoctoral Scholar Survey was conducted between August and October, 2001. This was a survey funded by the UW-Madison Graduate School to assess the postdoctoral experience on UW-Madison campus and to learn how it can be improved. CATI interviews were conducted with 461 UW-Madison postdoctoral scholars, which resulted in a 80.7% response rate. Survey questions pertained to various aspects of the postdoctoral experience, including mentorship, training needs, and overall satisfaction. The data collected will provide critical information for the Graduate School in designing an action plan that responds to the needs of postdoctoral scholars and faculty mentors on this campus. Job Training and Productivity in Rural America

DESCRIPTION
The "Job Training and Productivity in Rural America" study was a phone survey of 1590 Service and Manufacturing Industry businesses nation wide, with questions regarding employer training practices. The purpose of this study is to gather data about the training practices that are most used by these businesses, and which are effective, as well as the types of skills new hires typically possess. The purpose is to assist businesses in rural America develop better, more cost effective training programs for employees. The final response rate for this study was 57%.

2000 Sleep Cohort Study

The 2000 Sleep Cohort Study Survey was a mail survey of approximately 5000 former and current Wisconsin state employees. The 5 wave, 8 page mail out survey instrument asked questions about general health, and sleep behaviors and problems. Results of the survey will contribute to understandings of sleep and changes in sleep patterns over time.

Attitudes Toward Work Zone Safety

In order to improve highway work zones across the state of Wisconsin, the UWSC performed three separate focus groups. These groups consisted of eight or nine respondents who were asked to discuss their attitudes toward work zone safety. The goal of this study is to obtain an accurate description of public perception toward work zones.

UW System Faculty/Instructional Staff Computing Survey

DESCRIPTION
The UW System Faculty/Instructional Staff Computing Survey was a web/mail combination survey, designed to collect information on computer and technology use by faculty and instructional staff at all UW campuses. 1400 Faculty and Instructional Staff at the University of Wisconsin System campuses were e-mailed the address of a web survey and asked to complete it. There were then 2 more e-mail reminders sent, and finally a paper copy of the survey was sent to all non respondents. Of the 899 responses, 737 or 82% resulted from the Web survey, and the rest, 162 or 18% resulted from the questionnaire mailing.

Senior Survey II for the Verbal Assessment Project

DESCRIPTION
Telephone interviews were be conducted with 625 undergraduate seniors at the UW-Madison. This survey is a replication of the 1998 Senior Survey for the Verbal Assessment Project. This survey was funded by the UW Verbal Assessment Committee to evaluate students' attitudes and beliefs relevant to public speaking, writing and library use. The data will be compared to those collected in 1998 to assess the overall impact of the general education communication program on students' educational experiences and may help to improve future communication courses within the general education program. Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources ATV, Snowmobile and Boat Study

DESCRIPTION
The Wisconsin DNR ATV, Snowmobile, and Boat Study was a three wave mail survey of approxmiately 23,000 Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota residents. Respondents were of three types: ATV users, snowmobilers, and boaters. Respondents of each type were asked to give information about their gasoline consumption, and about their outdoor recreation experiences and practices. This information will be used to verify the formula for the transfer of gasoline excise taxes to the state outdoor recreation programs.

2000 Department of Natural Resources Forestry Study

The 2000 DNR Forestry Study was an RDD phone survey of 500 Wisconsin residents. The purpose of this survey is to understand public opinion and perception of forestry and issues relating to Wisconsin Forestry practices. Results of the study will be used to develop statewide educational materials.
